When
is the right time for an orthodontic appointment?
Early Treatment
Orthodontic treatment can
be started at any age, however, many orthodontic problems are easier
to correct if detected at an early age before jaw growth has slowed.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child
receive an initial orthodontic examination as early as age seven. Early
treatment may mean that a patient can avoid surgery and more serious
complications
Adult Treatment
While most people
tend to associate orthodontics with children, adults are also prime
candidates for treatment. Adults of all ages will fully appreciate the
return on their orthodontic investment with better dental health and
a great smile. Twenty percent of our patients are adults and the number
is growing. Many patients think that teeth cannot be moved with adult
patients. This is definitely untrue. In fact, in many cases they move
even better because adults tend to be more cooperative than some of
our younger patients.
